As we continue to meet with clients and prospective clients on a daily basis it amazes me how many times a business owner (and especially a small business owner) will tell us when we ask them about their social media marketing, “We have a Facebook page!”. Here is what most of them seem to be missing:
Sadly, the list goes on and on. Facebook is an incredible avenue for a business to drive and generate sales. And it’s FREE! With more than 1-billion people on Facebook why wouldn’t you use it as a daily billboard to help get your company’s message out there and increase your name recognition? The key to Facebook marketing is understanding how to engage your audience. Your audience wants to be educated and entertained.
But here is where most companies are missing the boat. Facebook is a two-way conversation. Imagine calling a friend, she answers and then hangs up! That’s essentially what you are doing when your Facebook fans are liking, commenting and posting on your page and you aren’t responding. That Facebook “thumbs up” should be evidence to you that people are seeing your message! And they “like” it! Even just a quick “thank you” goes a long way on a Facebook page! But take it a step further, answer questions quickly. Offer advice and encourage them to call you for more information. Engage with your fans and have a two way conversation. Don’t just hang up! Work hard for the “thumbs up”!
